Project 3 + Final Statement

For this project, I had a lot of fun designing the figure on Womp and learning how to use the program/website. I think it was exciting to see how it looked with the transparent textures, and while I was a bit disappointed in how much it would have cost me to print the figure with the resin and regular white base, it was a good learning experience. I also liked that I could export the file, so when I had to print it out at the library last minute, it made it so much easier just to upload it and connect it to the 3D printer. One thing, however, I wish I had changed in the figure's design is to make the hair detachable. I think after seeing it printed and physical in comparison to the digital 3D model, I realized this would have been a great way to make a toy figure that can be customized with different hair pieces. Maybe I could have made little clothes out of fabric that would have looked great with the translucent clay. Another thing I would have done is make some of the floral and green elements 3D printed. If I had done that, the figure would have probably looked more cohesive, and the translucent clay would have stood out more against the solid colored greenery. Overall though I think the idea I had narrowed down my figure to was conveyed well, the greenery on the naked figure symbolizes growth and growing up and with the figure being made to look like a toy I think the message of maintaining the fun and joy that childhood has like with toys can still be maintained while growing up into adulthood. While short, this project was a huge milestone for me because it was the first time I've ever 3D printed something. It was also my last project in college as an art major. I think designing the figure with key elements of myself was something I really enjoyed. It also gave me the confidence to not worry so much about what jobs I could get after graduation, because as an artist, I can always keep going and let my creativity thrive while being able to adapt and learn new things like modeling software and coding. Like I said before, I had a lot of fun making this project, and I will send the file off to another library that makes bigger prints to make it the full size that I want it to be.
