Final Design

I had already chosen colors for the terracotta dog and the Folklorico mouse for this project. However, because I was initially using puffy paint, I decided to test it out on the terracotta fabric, and I realized the tone looked off and the paint was too bright, so it didn’t look like clay. So I decided to use fabric paint, and when I wanted to add the brown color that makes the fabric look wet, I think I used the color theory principles well because I came to understand how the fabric was going to absorb the paint and make the tone darker, so when I mixed the paint, I made sure it was brighter than what I wanted. I think in terms of if they’re complimentary against each other, I would say that it worked out because the dog is on the warmer orange side; however, maybe if I wanted them to complement each other more, I should have used a darker blue, but I wanted to stick to accuracy. I could communicate the concept well in terms of design; I think that maybe, for the Folklorico mouse, I should have made it look a little clearer, maybe by removing the veiled face of the mouse. Still, at the same time, I feel like the veil is very reminiscent of the ghostly way the dancers look when they’re spinning in their dresses. I think I conveyed the design well for the dog because the colors and patterns came directly from a cup, and the fabric and paint I used worked well to express the texture. When I put them both against each other, it looks a bit unbalanced because the dog is too small compared to the puffy and tall mouse. However, I felt like it was interesting because they’re opposites. Especially when you compare the texture of the ruffles and lace to smooth cotton, I think I should have gone with a red dress or darker blue instead of the blue because it would look better in two warm tones. I learned a lot while working on it because I realized that when it’s a completely smooth and flat plush, I should have used more giant limbs to balance it, and maybe it looks even when compared to something with much more texture.
