Artist Talk Remix reading response

Nancy Baker Cahill’s artist talk was fascinating. Her combination of different styles and programs to create those massive XR pieces is impressive. Even though I was a little late to her talk, I was captivated by the elements she had included in her pieces. In fact, of all the ones she showed, my favorite was the dragon piece, which was interactive because it constantly changes and keeps moving. I feel like the idea of XR is somewhat collaborative, like you need to seek it out for it to appear actively, and the dragon monster piece showed that the best because it’s like a canvas where each person can leave their piece of themselves. Another thing that surprised me about her art was the fact that one of her pieces that showed different images of women and was pretty activist was taken down even though it wasn’t there in actuality, and when we were able to see the actual piece, it was hard to see how it was controversial and the fact that she continues it was inspirational. As an artist, I sometimes struggle with staying motivated when someone critiques my projects negatively, and I can’t imagine how hard it is to work on a public large-scale project and have it taken down because the topic was bringing awareness to something. I also really like the installation she did with the dome, and it made me wonder how that would look without screens and only projection mapping. Along with that, I thought that her having her app or software you install to see her art is so cool, and I felt that as a digital artist, things like this are essential in making public art more versatile.
