The Impact of Vintage Cartoons on Pop Culture
This article enticed me because my previous reading was on artist and designer toys, but this article discussed the impact of cartoons on POP culture. This is important to learn and discuss because we take inspiration from shows and cartoons to make our art, especially in digital art and other traditional media. For example, in many classic digital collages, it is common for cartoon characters or movie characters to appear inside or even be taken as inspiration for those pieces. Vintage cartoons and nostalgia frequently appear within my art as it is something that I hold very near and dear to my heart. In the article, they talk about how cartoons reflect society and bring up the Flintstones as an example. They also bring up how new technology helps improve and bring new forms of animation, precisely what we experience as digital artists; we grow with technology and create more unique and better art but never really let go of the old stuff. Honestly, the article was pretty short, and in the end, it was like a promotion for the author’s company. Still, I felt that the way they assigned specific cartoons to pop culture was great, and it reminded me of how artists also contribute to pop culture and add to it. Just like how abstract shapes were popular at a particular time and realism and surrealism were popular due to society at the time, we can develop new ways for digital art and help make it more common in our daily lives.
